Курс академічного письма викладається англійською мовою. Для роботи на цьому курсі рівень володіння англійською мовою має бути не нижче В2. Специфікою цього предмету є великий обсяг самостійно виконаних письмових завдань, який потрібно виконувати регулярно і поступально. Під час роботи над програмою курсу студенти мають усвідомлено ставитися до письмових робіт, які вимагаються на кожній темі, писати їх самостійно, покладаючись на власні знання мови, обізнаність, загальну ерудицію та філологічну компетентність. Дотримання норм академічної доброчесності є невід'ємною частиною успішності кожного студента.
Мета курсу
The aim of
the course is to help students apply and advance their writing skills and
prepare them to write essays and tackle many types of writing in the real
world.
In terms of its objectives the
present course strives to:
-
introduce students to key aspects of good writing and
to the writing process, guiding students through prewriting, drafting,
revising, and editing;
-
outline the four bases of effective writing (unity, support,
coherence, and sentence skills) and show how to use the four bases to revise
writing;
-
show how the four bases apply in different patterns of
paragraph development and in specialized types of writing;
-
introduce students to the essay and guide them through
the transition of writing paragraphs to writing essays.

By the end of the
course trainees will be able to demonstrate the following skills:

to identify the main idea and support of anything they
read and write;

to consider important features of the writing;

to learn a process of critical reading that they can
apply to other situations;

to achieve a smooth
flow of ideas in academic writing by effectively using the most common
transitional devices;

to successfully
write different types of essays using the skills acquired throughout this
optional course.
